 Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
(8- week class)

This is the core program of the Sarasota Mindfulness Institute.  There are powerful tools available to us to resist the pull of depression, stress, and anxiety, which we explore and practice in this class.  The efficacy of MBSR has been demonstrated over & over for a variety of afflictions.

We add some cognitive tools training as part of our curriculum.  This protocol has been shown to be opne of the most effective treatments for recurrent depression.

Our natural inclination is to be pulled unconsciously by our thoughts, bodily sensations and feelings towards unproductive, ruminative patterns. By active participation in this class, you will learn and practice the tools to trade
reaction for response.

Although the text for this class is oriented toward depression (The Mindful Way Through Depression), the principles transfer easily to stress and anxiety.

Participants will be asked to develop a daily meditation practice, and will optimally benefit by doing so.  If you are currently experiencing a Major Depressive Episode, this class is NOT recommended. (Once you are in remission, this class is HIGHLY recommended.)

THE POWER OF MINDFULNESS IN ADDICTION RECOVERY

People often think that eating, drinking, drugging, shopping and many other activities will make them happy.

And they do...for a while. But soon many people become too attached to the substances and activities that once gave them comfort and they become addicted to them.

MINDFULNESS helps to let go of addictions.

It also helps you develop self knowledge, techniques for personal empowerment, and life skills to maintain and strengthen inner peace.

MINDFULNESS improves self-discipline, self-esteem and impulse control
and increases the ability to act instead of react.

MINDFULNESS helps to shine a light on all of the 12 steps so that we can practice them more deeply, and can offer an alternative to the 12-step model.

MINDFULNESS deepens one's spirituality. Within weeks, people who regularly practice these techniques may notice an amazing differences in their lives.

Cost:  $60 for series.

Minimum workshop size:         Maximum:

Instructor:  Ruth Fishel, M.Ed., CADAC, LMHC

NEXT WORKSHOP:  JANUARY 2012

A Bite of Mindfulness: an Introduction to Mindful Eating

Learn what it means to move from mindless eating to mindful eating and what that can mean for the health of your body. When is the last time you truly focused on the fuel that ensures that your heart beats and your brain thinks?

Mindful eating engages the five senses so that you fully enter into the experience of eating. To be mindful when eating is to appreciate and love what is going into your body.

Take part in this 2 hour, interactive presentation and learn what it means to practice Mindful Eating.

The course will be led by Dr. Julie Baumberger, one of our MBSR instructors

Please contact Julie for more information:  Julie@SarasotaMindfulness.org.
