Books:
- Williams, Teasdale, Segal & Kabat-Zinn (2007). The Mindful Way Through Depression. This is the book we use as the text for our core class, Mindfulness & Cognitive Tools for Stress Reduction (or what the authors call MBCT, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.) Book is very straightforward, easy to read, full of great examples, includes a cd of guided meditations, and is equally applicable to anyone suffering from stress or anxiety.
- Kabat-Zinn, Jon (1990) Full Catastrophe Living. Dr. Kabat-Zinn has become known for his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction workshops. This book provides a foundation for MBSR and contains lots of good (some a little dated), useful material.
- Kabat-Zinn, Jon (2005). Wherever You go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life. An elegant, daily-practice form of learning mindfulness. Neat, brief and very useful "chunks" of practice.
- Kabat-Zinn, Jon (2005). Coming to Our Senses: Healing ourselves and the World Through Mindfulness. This is the essential guide to mindfulness practice. After reading, you will have considered it from every angle & you will likely learn of new possibilities for being in the meditative space.
- Santorelli, Saki (1999). Heal Thyself. Saki Santorelli directs the Mindfulness Institute, working alongside Jon Kabat-Zinn to promote healing among healers, people with pain & illness, and others wanting to improve their experience of living life. This book is a wonderful peek into the world of an 8-week mindfulness program, with reminders that on the journey of seeking healing, we are all student and teacher, alike.
- Seigel, Daniel. (2007). The Mindful Brain. If you are really interested in knowing where the science of mindfulness is, and where it's going, and if you are patient with needing to use your intellect to read through something, this is very worthwhile reading!
- Cozolino, Louis (2006). The Neuroscience of Human Relationships. I love this book - it sort of combines the work of Sue Johnson & Dan Seigel, both listed above, and makes the science interesting & useful. Very readable, in my opinion.
- Stahl & Goldstein (2010). A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook. Joining a group is a much easier way for most of us to learn mindfulness meditation. But if you prefer to try it on your own, or if you wish to explore your practice further, this workbook with cd of guided meditations may be right for you.
